Observation on the Curative  Effects of Bio-Spectrum Treatment Device as a Supplement on Infantile Pneumonia

Bronchial pneumonia is  a common disease of children, especially infants. Antibiotics and intravenous  injection are the main treatments previously. In recent years we have used  Zhoulin Bio-spectrum Treatment Device as a supplement to treat infantile  pneumonia and acquired good efficacy. The following is a summary of the results.  


SUBJECTS AND  METHODS

 
Subjects:
54 patients  of bronchial pneumonia, 35 male and 19 female, 28 cases less than 1 year old, 19  cases between 1~3, and 7 cases older then 3 were studied. The percentage of  infants was 87%. All of the children had a cough and moist rales. 45cases had a  fever and the body temperatures of 10 of them were higher than 39℃. Chest x-rays  examination indicated that 11 cases had bilateral patchy shadow; 21 cases had  unilateral patchy shadow; and 15 cases had increased lung markings. 7 cases did  not take the examination. Routine blood test showed that the numbers of white  blood cells of 30 cases were greater than 12×199/L, and that of the rest 24  cases were less than 12×109/L. The main complications included 4 cases of heart  failure, 3 cases of rickets, 2 cases of hepatic dysfunction, 1 case of  malnutrition, 1 case of enteritis and 1 case of abnormal electrocardiogram. The  above patients were randomly divided into treatment group (ATG)(28 cases) and  control group (CG) (26 cases).


Methods:
Antibiotics  and antitussive were generally used in the two groups. But the treatment group  received additional irradiation by WS-101D Bio-spectrum Treatment Device. The  low band was used and scapula part on the back was irradiated, namely the Feiyu  acu-point that lay beside the third and fourth thoracic vertebrae. The distance  between the device and irradiated area was 20-30 cm. The treatment was taken  once a day for 30 minutes each time. The average treatment times were 5-7.  Control group received no bio-spectrum irradiation.
A certain person was  assigned to give instruction to the family members of the infant patients in the  treatment.


RESULTS



Standards for  assessment:
Significantly effective: symptoms or signs disappeared in 5  days;
Effective: symptom and signs disappeared in 7 days;
Ineffective:  symptoms or signs disappeared in more than 7 days.

 

Days for temperature  dropping:
In ATG, fever in 21 cases subside in 5 days and only 2 cases in  CG. The average days of fever in ATG and CG were 2.30±1.36 and 3.42±0.25  respectively. Comparison between the two groups showed that t=1.01, and  P>0.05.


Days for cough mitigation:  
In ATG, there were 9 obviously effective cases, 13 effective cases and 6  inefficacious cases. In CG, there were 4 obviously effective cases, 13 effective  cases and 9 inefficacious cases. The average days with a cough in ATG and CG  were respectively 6.25±1.51 and 7.08±1.33. And t=4.61, P<0.01.


Days for absorption of  moist rales:
In ATG, there were 23 obviously effective cases, 5 effective  cases. In CG, there were 4 obviously effective cases, 13 effective cases and 9  ineffecacious cases. The average days for absorption were 4.50 ±1.07 and  6.65±1.57 respectively. And t=4.30, P<0.01.


Days for hospitalization:  
There were 13 cases in ATG that had stayed in hospital for no more than 7  days. The longest case in ATG had stayed in hospital for 14 days. In CG there  were 6 cases that had stayed in hospital for no more than 7 days and the longest  time staying in hospital was 11 days. The average days in hospital were  respectively 8.07±1.12 and 8.23±1.22. And t=1.60, P>0.05.

DISCUSSION


Feiyu  acupoint has antipyretic function and can promote the dispersing function of the  lung. We used Bio-Spectrum Device to irradiate directly on this acupoint of  infant patients with pneumonia in order to acquire supplementary curative  effects through its particular biological effects. The results of our  investigation demonstrated that, after being irradiated by BST device, cough was  relieved faster, and moist rales were also absorbed faster. There was  significant difference between the two groups. As for the temperature dropping,  there was no remarkable difference between the two groups. The spectrum  irradiation treatment was made even for infant patients with high fever during  their no-fever period. Fever is not a contraindication symptom in this case. The  bio-spectrum method could alleviate the suffering of infant patients with  pneumonia, shorten the course of treatment and decrease the hospitalization  days. There was no statistical sinificance for the difference between the two  groups ( t= 1.60), which may be related to inadequate cases and that one case in  ATG was found to be complicated with enteritis and hepatic dysfunction during  his hospitalization, and had to stay in hospital for up to 14 days. In the  viewpoint of clinical application, most of the infant patients and their family  members readily accepted this treatment. And no scald, skin rash and other  discomfort happened. Therefore, we conclude that spectrum treatment can be used  not only in hospital but also at home.
